On the night before Thanksgiving 2021, Smith went on a first date with a woman named Leslie Reeves. The next morning, the first respondents found Smith on his farms, Illinois, a house with a bullet in his brain. Reeves had died.

In January 2022, Smith woke up from his coma and asked where it was and what happened. He did not remember anything from the shooting night. He had no memory of his history with Reeves, although he was talking on the phone and corresponding to her two weeks before the shooting.

Because of Smith’s injuries, the neurosurgeon, Dr. Victor Williams, told Smith that he could not walk again. Williams and his team were devoted to doing everything they could to help Chris to recover.
Life has changed forever
