Bucharest, Romania-The European Union’s supportive candidate in the tense presidential flow in Romania takes the initiative in the polls, and the initial electoral data showed in a close vote against hard right-wing nationalist nationalism that could determine the geopolitical trend of the member country.
The race was incited by the first candidate George Simon, the 38 -year -old leader of the hard right -wing coalition of the Romanian unit, or U, against the current mayor of Bucharest Nicosor Dan. It was held months after the cancellation of the previous elections in Romania in its worst political crisis in decades.
After calculating 8.5 million votes from 11.6 million votes, Dan was 53.56 %, while Simon exceeded 46.44 %, according to official data.
Thousands gathered outside the headquarters of Dan near the Boucharest City Hall, waiting for the final results, chanting “Nikwosor!” Every time it expands its progress with the emergence of more results, the crowd, and a lot of feed in Europe will erupt in chants.
The height of the voters’ copies of what it was in the first round
Upon closing the vote at 9 pm, the official electoral data showed 64 % of the voters. About 1.64 million Romanians abroad, who managed to vote since Friday at private polling stations, participated in the vote.
Dan told the media that “the elections are not related to politicians” but about societies, and in Sunday’s vote, “a society of Romanians have won, a society that wants a deep change in Romania.”
“When Romania passes through difficult times, let’s remember the power of this Roman society,” he said. “There is also a society that has lost today’s elections. A truly angry society is the way in which politics has been in Romania so far.”
The turnout was much higher on Sunday, and it is expected to play a decisive role in the result. In the first round on May 4, the final turnout reached 53 % of qualified voters.
The political scene of Romania was raised last year when the Supreme Court canceled the previous elections in which Caleyn Caleyon, the independent right -wing of the first -round surveys, in the wake of allegations of electoral violations and Russian overlap, denied by Moscow.
Simon stands on the steps of building the Roman Parliament of the Communist Parliament after opinion polls, and predicted a great victory, called “the victory of the Roman people.” Simon said that Georgsco was “supposed to be the president” before the elections were canceled last year. He also called for vigilance against fraud in elections, but he said in general that he was satisfied with the voting behavior.
Soon after 6 pm, Romanian Foreign Ministry spokesman AndrĂ© Tarneh said in a post on the X that the elections were undergoing a “viral campaign for fake news” on the Telegram correspondence application and other social media platforms, which tried to influence the electoral process and its “for Russian interference.”
Coordinated misleading networks have emerged as a force spread throughout the entire Romanian electoral cycle. Tanninah said that the Roman authorities preferred the flood of fake news.
Simon appeared alongside Georgisco at a station for Bucharest on Sunday and informed reporters that he voted against “insults that our sisters and brothers were exposed to.”
What happens in Romania?
Years of settlement corruption and increased anger at the Romania Political Foundation have fueled an increase in the support of the Foundation and the right -wing numbers, which reflects a wider pattern throughout Europe. He made Simon and condemned their political career that attracts the old Roman political class.
The latest local investigative studies indicated that the surface flow would be narrow, after that previously showed that Simon occupies the initiative of Dan, a 55 -year -old mathematician and rose to the lead as a civil activist fighting against illegal real estate projects.
After voting in his hometown in Vagaras, Dan told the correspondents that he voted for the Romanians, “They are calm and honest and worked hard, who did not feel active for a long time”, and “for strong cooperation with our European partners, not to isolate Romania.”
Dan established the Romanian Reformist Union Party in 2016, but later left, and is working independently on the ticket of the Federation in support of Europe, which redirects Western relations, and supported financial reform Ukraine.

Simon’s speech in the period before Sunday raised some concerns that he would not respect the result if he lost. Early in the afternoon, the correspondents told that his team was confident of the “victory of the land”, if the elections were “free and fair”.
However, he repeated allegations of voting on violations between the Romanian citizens in the neighboring Moldova and said that the members of his party Sigreon were a parallel number of voting after the closure of opinion polls. Associated Press told the Associated Press that the polling so far continued properly.
Adrian Nadine, a 51 -year -old musician who supported Georgsco in the previous elections, said he chose Simon.
“Part of Romania prefers to preserve,” he said.
Luminita Betrachi, a 32 -year -old financial crime analyst, did not want to determine who voted in her favor, but described the surface flow as a geopolitical choice between East and West.
She said: “It is very important because the next president will be our image in Europe, (decided) how Romania will develop in the next five years.” “I hope for changes in Romania in good ways.”
What awaits us?
The president was elected for a period of five years and has great powers in decision -making in national security and foreign policy. The winner of the Sunday race will be accused of nominating a new prime minister after Marcel Seolaco stepped down after his coalition candidate failed to advance to the surface flow.
After finishing the fourth place in the race that was canceled last year, Simon Georgsku, who was banned in March, was running in the re -election. Simon then rose to the first positions in the first round on May 4 after he became the stand -up holder of the difficult right.
SIMION, a former activist who has a campaign to restore unification with the neighboring Moldova, says he will focus on reforms: reduce the red tape and reduce bureaucracy and taxes. However, he insists that restoring democracy is his priority, as the “will of the people” returns.
AR says it symbolizes “family, nation, faith and freedom” and rose to the forefront of the parliamentary elections in 2020. Since then, it has grown to become the second largest party in the Roman Legislative Commission.
Breaks: Russia or the European Union?
His critics say that Simon is a pro -Russian extremist threatening the long alliances of Romania in the European Union and NATO.
In an interview with AP, he rejected the accusations, saying that Russia is the biggest threat to his country and that he wanted to treat Romania as “equal partners” in Brussels.
“I don’t think he is a supportive candidate for Russia, I do not think he is an anti -Russian candidate,” said Claudio Tofis, Associate Professor of Political Science at Bucharest University. “I think what he is driving … his focus on what I call the identity policy.”
In the vote in the first round, SIMION won 61 % of the Roman winter votes, with calls for patriotism that resonates with the Romanians who moved abroad.
