President Donald Trump’s supreme negotiator, who is working in the Russian war in Ukraine, expected that Trump would receive a “successful” phone call with President Vladimir Putin on Monday, saying he believed that the conversation “will come a long way to determine where we are and how we are negotiating this negotiation.”
“I think the president will have a successful call with – with Vladimir Putin,” said Steve Witkeov’s private envoy on Sunday. “They know each other. The president is determined to accomplish something here … if he cannot do that, no one can.”
Delegations from Ukraine and Russia met in Türkiye on Thursday for the first direct talks related to the end of the war that Russia began in February 2022 when it launched a large -scale invasion of its sovereign neighbor. A Ukrainian source told ABC News after these talks that the Russians were demanding unrealistic. A week ago, Vice President JD Vance said about the Russians, “We think they are asking a lot.”
In response to a question about whether to share the evaluation of Vans, he told Witkeov, “this week”, co -week Jonathan Karl, that “his evaluation is that this is a very complex struggle that should not have occurred.”
“I think in negotiations like this, people take sites,” Witkeov said. “The art here is restriction …, as you know, a wide sidewalk between the two parties. And I think somewhat we did so. To some extent – each party is – as you know, get out of its positions. I think the two will have a long way towards determining where we are and how we can meet this negotiation.”
Trump announced on Saturday that he will talk to Putin on Monday at 10 am, the president said he intends to speak with Ukrainian President Voludmir Zelinsky and the “various” NATO allies after inviting Putin.
