Officials said that the members of the Union of Railway Engineers in New Jersey Tranzit were struck immediately after midnight, which led to a suspension of a system based on about 350,000 people.
The Muslim Brotherhood of the locomotive engineers and the train men said that about 450 members in New Jersey Tranzit were walking out of the job at 12:01 am, in a wage dispute.
About an hour before this deadline, state governor, Phil Murphy, New Jersey Tranzit and CEO of Chris Colory, told reporters that they wanted a fair deal for the union.
But they also said that they could not agree to a preferential deal that would cause other unions in the transportation system the same, which Murphy said would cause the costs of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Murphy said that New Jersey Tranzit “is facing realistic financial truth.”
The federation was martyred with low wages as a higher issue.
He said that its members in New Jersey Tranzit are the least -paid frozen engineers in any major railway lines in the country.
“They have gone without an increase for six years and are seeking to obtain a new contract since October 2019,” the union said.
New Jersey Tranzit said the strike may affect 350,000 people per day, and this week Metlife stadium warned that there will be no bus or railway in New Jersey at Shakira’s concerts on Thursday and Friday.
The Union said that the sit -in lines are scheduled to start at four in the morning on Friday, including the Pennsylvania station in Manhattan.
The Federation said that the Obour Agency has millions to spend on a new headquarters in Newark and gave up millions on the taxi last year.
“They have money for the views of the shed and pets, not just for their front lines,” Mark Wallet President Mark Wallace said in a statement. “It is enough enough. We will stay outside until our members receive the fair wage they deserve.”
Murphy and Collore said they were open to continue negotiations at any time. They urged people who are able to work from home on Friday to do this, and they said that there would be an additional bus service and additional areas for parks and riding.
Amtrak and Path trains, and buses are still working.
The last time there was a strike in New Jersey Tranzit in 1983, more than 40 years ago.
